Why Should Workers Stay at Home in Workers' Day?

People should tell us the reason why workers remain at their homes in workers' day. Its really funny, today suppose to be the day that a worker should be able to offer optimal service in respect of his or her job as the day implies.

Is workers' day meant a rest day for workers? If so the name workers' day should be changed to workers work free day or workers public holiday.
